DocMorris and the Zur Rose Group make no secret of their ambitions, which I will talk about in the second part of this article. And so it should come as no surprise when Zur Rose now takes over TeleClinic and is able to raise a further CHF 212.6 million at top prices on the stock exchange in the course of a capital increase (PDF):

“The Zur Rose Group has acquired TeleClinic GmbH based in Munich for a purchase price in the mid double-digit million euro range.

The rapidly growing company, which was founded in 2015 by Katharina Jünger, has established itself as the leading telemedicine provider in Germany within a short period of time.

For the Zur Rose Group, TeleClinic represents a strategically important building block in the Zur Rose health ecosystem, which is being expanded by the purchase to include telemedical services.

The healthcare platform aims to provide convenient access to first-class digital solutions, medications and products”.

Zur Rose recently acquired the Apotal mail-order pharmacy and is currently collecting capital worth several hundred million CHF every six months, most recently in March 175 million CHF.

The still young TeleClinic received EUR 7 million from Idinvest Partners in the first major financing round at the end of 2018.

Why do the mega-pharmacies invest in a telemedicine start-up?

Both DocMorris (PDF) and Shop Apotheke (PDF) are gearing up for the electronic prescription, which is to be introduced nationwide in 2021 and which the mega-pharmacies expect to generate further billions in sales of prescription drugs:

DocMorris, in particular, wants to play a central role and is drumming for its solutions:

With eHealth-Tec, DocMorris is positioning itself as a technology partner for all aspects of electronic prescriptions:

Accordingly, DocMorris wants to supply a wealth of providers with data:

To this end, DocMorris has restructured/extended its management and has recently been able to report numerous new additions. (Amazon had to let go one more Amazon boss)

For example, the marketplace app is to be set up from Berlin, giving patients the choice of having prescription drugs sent to them or picking them up at the local pharmacy:

The pharmacy lobby is naturally up in arms against such a request. Exactly one month ago this community introduced a new cooperative model in which even small local pharmacists can participate:

“Your best way to get your medicine — simply fast and safe”: Behind this slogan lies the Pro AvO initiative, an alliance of Wort & Bild Verlag, Sanacorp, Gehe, Noventi and BD Rowa. Today, Wednesday, the partners presented their eagerly awaited platform, with which they are declaring war on EU mail order companies — especially in view of the introduction of the e-prescription.

The question, however, will be who will make it easiest for patients to redeem the electronic prescription and offer additional services.

Diese Frage stellt sich auch Amazon und ergänzend zu den Zahlen von Shop Apotheke und DocMorris lohnt sich mal wieder ein Blick auf PillPack, das Amazon 2018 für 750 Mio. Dollar übernommen hat.

This question is also being asked by Amazon and in addition to the figures from Shop Apotheke and DocMorris, it’s worth taking another look at PillPack, which Amazon acquired in 2018 for 750 million dollars.

It now runs under PillPack by Amazon Pharmacy — and the video (“We are a new kind of pharmacy”) shows quite well how Amazon imagines the pharmacy of tomorrow:

Amazon Pharmacy has also had Amazon protected for Europe and is simultaneously pushing Amazon Care (“Healthcare built around you”), initially as an in-house service for its own employees at corporate headquarters:

Die Zur Rose Gruppe, die mit DocMorris & Co. weiter große Ambitionen hat, betreibt ihren DailyMed-Service in der Schweiz bereits seit 2006.

The Zur Rose Group, which continues to have great ambitions with DocMorris & Co., has been operating its DailyMed service in Switzerland since 2006.

Grongrats to the founder of teleclinic!
